    FLOYD KUPTANA
Floyd Kuptana: Born February 14, 1964 in Cape Perry, Son of Phillip and
Elizabeth Kuptana, Floyd has two older brothers, William and Robert.
Floyd normally resides in Paulatuk, NWT, Canada.
Floyd's cousin is the famous sculptor David Ruben Piqtoukun whose influence
on Floyd's work is obvious. David's younger brother Frances taught Floyd
how to carve. Floyd began by helping Frances sand and polish his carvings. He
decided he would rather be doing carving than helping. Floyd started carving
in his early twenties but has not pursued his craft steadily.
Floyd draws his inspiration from inuit mythology. He incorporates
"shamanism" into much of his work. Like his famous cousin, David Ruben,
Floyd spends a lot of time in Toronto selecting his stone and gaining insight
     into the modern world.
Floyd is a talented emerging artist. His first show was organized by
ABoriginArt and held in conjunction with Arctic Artistry in New York City
from May - Sept 1999. The show also featured pieces by his famous cousin
     David.
