AGGEAK PETAULASSIE Born: 1922 Male E7-815
Died: 1983
Resided: Cape Dorset; also lived in Tariungajuk Camp
Sculpture, Drawings
Aggeak Petaulassie carved only rarely until 1978, then steadily until his
death in 1983. His first wife Sheouak (d. 1961) created print images for the
1960-61 Cape Dorset collections. His second wife Timangiak is also an artist,
having produced drawings, prints and sculptures. Three of his sons, Etidlui,
Qatsiya, and Pavinaq, are carvers.
In recalling her husband`s work, Timangiak states: "I like my husband`s
drawing. Seeing it makes me feel closer to my husband again. I wish he could
see my drawing. Aggeak found it very difficult to draw and he never talked
about what he drew," (Strange Scenes, p. 74).
