OSHUTSIAK PUDLAT (OOSHOOCHIAK) Born: 1908 Male E7-997 Died: 1992 Resided: Cape Dorset Drawings, Prints "It was not until September of 1980 that [Oshutsiak] first requested drawing paper, stating that he'd 'like to try'. At the suggestion of Terry Ryan, [Oshutsiak] tried his hand at illustrating his brother Simeonie's memories of establishing a Lapland reindeer farm in Amadjuak in 1922. This produced a series of remarkably skilled drawings. [Oshutsiak's] works are unique in style and approach. His subject matter includes figures with massive torsos, hunting scenes, and imaginary motifs."* Oshutsiak was the brother of famous artist Pudlo Pudlat. *from "Drawings by Oshoochiak Pudlat of Cape Dorset", 1985 (see reference below) EXHIBITIONS: 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1990, Cape Dorset Graphics 1992 (annual collection) (illustrated catalogue) April 1983 Dorset Lithos '83 - A New Direction Canadiana Galleries Edmonton, Alberta (illustrated brochure) October - December 1983 Inuit Masterworks: Selections from the Collection of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada McMichael Canadian Collection Kleinburg, Ontario December 1984 - February 1985 The Last and First Eskimos Museum of Science and History Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.A.
