Charlie was the first president of the Povungnituk Co-operative Society,
established in 1958, and remained president until 1967. He was also the first
and only Inuit artist to become a member of the Society of Canadian Sculptors.
Charlie is the father of Thomassiapik and Akinsie Sivuarapik, and brother
of Mina Matt.
