HONOURS, ACHIEVEMENTS and EVENTS:
1975 Travelled to Winnipeg to attend the official opening of the 1975
Baker Lake print collection at the Upstairs Gallery.
1976 Travelled to Toronto to attend the opening of the exhibition 'The People
Within' at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
1976 Travelled to Montreal to attend the exhibition 'Imprint 76', and was invited
to participate in the Eskimo Games of the Cultural Olympics.
1979 Travelled to Minneapolis, Minnesota to attend the opening of a group
print exhibition.
1980 Tookoome's print 'The World of Man and the World of Animals Come Together
in the Shaman' was reproduced on a 35 cent stamp issued September 25, 1980.
1985 Awarded a Visual Arts Grant by Canada Council.
1985 Maslak-McLeod, Suite #1, Toronto. The artist produced five prints in a special
edition released by Maslak-McLeod.
1988 Awarded first prize in a poster contest for the 1988 Winter Olympics in
Calgary.
1989 Attended the opening of the "Masters of the Arctic" exhibition in New York
City on June 5th.
Demonstrated his prowess with a whip by snapping a cigarette in two from a
distance of eight metres.
1989 Travelled to Ottawa to meet with the Board of Directors of the Inuit Art
Foundation, in December.
1992 Simon attended a Baker Lake carving workshop led by David Ruben Piqtoukun.
1993 Attended opening of the "Arts from the Arctic" exhibit in Kiruna, Sweden.
