Description
Howard Moose was born in South Indian Lake, Manitoba and began carving wood as a child using a pocket knife. In the early 80’s he began working with soapstone. Over the years Howard has continued to master his skills and produces beautiful aboriginal artwork, specializing in northern wildlife and First Nations peoples.Howard’s pieces can be found in the collection of the Legislature Building in Winnipeg and the private collection of former US President Jimmy Carter. This is an outstanding example of Howard’s command of the art of carving. His choice of Alberta Soapstone is beautiful, his elegant lines and use of chiseling for the head and tail feathers and leaving them rough while the body is polished to satin smoothness is wonderful! The inlay of two little alabaster eggs at the feet of this magnificent bird of prey is a whimsical touch to a compelling piece of art.
