Description
Papiara is relative newcomer to the Kinngait Studios. Born on Christmas Day, 1942, she is represented for the fourth time in the annual print collection with one image this year – Ukaliq Listens (2008-27). “Ukaliq” is the Inuktitut word for hare or rabbit; in Papiara’s hand the creature is recognizable only by its distinctive ears as it transforms from (or to?) its human counterpart.Papiara is married to Qopie Tukiki, a long-time employee of the community’s Housing Association. They live in Cape Dorset.
