Description

The Bow Drill, Ekootak, is a traditional tool. A piece called the Kindmiak is held between the teeth to rest the top end of the drill in for stability. The strap of the bow is wrapped around the drill once so that when the bow is drawn left and right, the drill turns and the bottom end will cause a hole where it was placed. The bow drill was used on anything that needed to be drilled [for instance, if a hole was needed in caribou antler that was being used as part of a sled].
