Beschreibung:

This is an early carving in a pale greenish serpentine, a stone rarely found in quantities useful for carving any longer. The scene is highly unusual and really defies description apart from the obvious; two seals crawling over the back of an outlandishly large bird-like creature. Was this an image born in the dreams of the unknown carver Is it from a story or myth passed down from parent to child and now lost except for this tantalizing piece of rock, carefully fashioned into a story we cannot decipher? One hopes that further research will answer our questions.
