Description:

"This print is a reminder that all things in this universe must come to an end eventually. And although people tend to fear this fact, when one thing ends it always produces more opportunities for other things to arise. A setting sun is a transition point in between one of these changes. And in order for the beauty of the moon and stars to light up the sky, the day must come to an end."

- Dylan Thomas

This limited edition silkscreen print titled "Setting Sun" by Dylan Thomas was hand produced by the screen printing process. It is the only limited edition printing of this design. The artist has inspected and signed each copy in the edition. All trial copies of this edition have been destroyed and the printing stencils obliterated.

Qwul’thilum (Dylan Thomas) is a Coast Salish artist from the Lyackson First Nation, who are traditionally from Valdes Island on the northwest coast of British Columbia. Born in 1986, Dylan Thomas grew up in a family rich with culture and tradition, and was lucky to be exposed to aboriginal art at a young age.

Dylan Thomas has trained in the art of jewelry design with jewelry artist Seletze (Delmar Johnnie) and has apprenticed under Kwakwaka’wakw artist Rande Cook in all other mediums of native art, including aboriginal paintings, serigraphs and carvings. His other artistic influences include renowned aboriginal artists Susan Point, Robert Davidson and the late Art Thompson.

In 2007, Dylan Thomas received a Aboriginal Arts Development Award to carve a two-dimensional wood panel under the guidance of Rande Cook. He is very focused on his career as an aboriginal artist, and plans to make art his life’s work.

"I believe that art must always be progressing and evolving. Although I do a form of traditional indigenous art, I try to take the solid foundation that was given to me by my ancestors and push it in new directions. The New Territory set is a visual expression of remaining grounded in tradition yet always pushing the boundaries and exploring New Territories. The prints depict the animals in a traditional circle spindle whorl form and although the majority of the animals bodies remain inside the spindle whorl the noses of the animals are breaking through the edge of the circle to explore new territory. This represents the always evolving nature of art." - Dylan Thomas
