Descripción:

New Bloom I, II, and III is a set of prints depicting three roses. The color and general form (A square inside of a circle) of the prints is the same, but like living roses, each one is unique.

The style of these prints is an exploration of the design techniques I have developed over my career as an artist, but in a much more unrestricted way than my former designs. In New Bloom, I chose to allow my sense of design to flow in a liberated fashion and didn’t restrict myself to the usual conventions of Coast Salish art. This gave these prints a unique style and made them very distinct from my former work. But my history as a Coast Salish artist still gave these designs a Northwest Coast feel.

I plan to explore this style further in the future and this is why I gave the prints the title New Bloom. Like flowers blooming in spring, I believe that this exploration will bring freshness to my artistic journey and hopefully it will continue to grow into something unique and beautiful.

- Dylan Thomas

This print is also available as a set with matching numbers along with 'New Bloom I' and 'New Bloom II'. Please inquire under the 'Contact Us' tab.

This limited edition silkscreen print titled "New Bloom III" by Dylan Thomas was hand produced by the screen printing process. It is the only limited edition printing of this design. The artist has inspected and signed each copy in the edition. All trial copies of this edition have been destroyed and the printing stencils obliterated.

- Dylan Thomas

Qwul’thilum (Dylan Thomas) is a Coast Salish artist from the Lyackson First Nation, who are traditionally from Valdes Island on the northwest coast of British Columbia. Born in 1986, Dylan Thomas grew up in a family rich with culture and tradition, and was lucky to be exposed to aboriginal art at a young age.

Dylan Thomas has trained in the art of jewelry design with jewelry artist Seletze (Delmar Johnnie) and has apprenticed under Kwakwaka’wakw artist Rande Cook in all other mediums of native art, including aboriginal paintings, serigraphs and carvings. His other artistic influences include renowned aboriginal artists Susan Point, Robert Davidson and the late Art Thompson.

In 2007, Dylan Thomas received a Aboriginal Arts Development Award to carve a two-dimensional wood panel under the guidance of Rande Cook. He is very focused on his career as an aboriginal artist, and plans to make art his life’s work.

"I believe that art must always be progressing and evolving. Although I do a form of traditional indigenous art, I try to take the solid foundation that was given to me by my ancestors and push it in new directions. The New Territory set is a visual expression of remaining grounded in tradition yet always pushing the boundaries and exploring New Territories. The prints depict the animals in a traditional circle spindle whorl form and although the majority of the animals bodies remain inside the spindle whorl the noses of the animals are breaking through the edge of the circle to explore new territory. This represents the always evolving nature of art." - Dylan Thomas
