Description: “Long ago, a girl from the village of Tikeraq slew a beast from the sea while she was out hunting with her father. She fell into a faint, and upon awakening she found herself to be in a strange place. She embarked on a journey homeward, but she had to undergo many frightening adventures on the way. Forced to marry an evil man she escaped him, just brefore he planned to kill her, by following the advice and warnings of an old, grandmother shaman. Another time, using a magic knife given to her by a friendly villager, she rescued a neighboring village from a terrorizing ogre. She finally arrived home only to discover that her father had been turned into a murderous ogre by eating the meat of the sea beast she had long before killed. Again using the magic knife, the girl freed her father from his bewitched state. Now that the girl had returned, and the father was normal, the family rejoiced together and were happy”.

I have been living in Pangnirtung since 1967. I originally came from Iglootalik in Cumberland Sound where we lived in a permanent hunting camp. When I first started working at the print shop I wasn’t very good at it. Now, since I’ve been printing for a while, I’m getting better at it. I’m very slow still. When we do stone cuts, after we have applied ink on the stone and put the printing paper down, we use a spoon to spread the ink. Last year I was living off the land just outside of Pangnirtung for a year. Now I am in charge of the printers here in our shop”. [1975]
